Meet Taira

TAIRA RESTAR is an artist and arts educator with a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Art and a Master's Degree in Movement Education. She is a Registered Somatic Movement Educator through the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association. Taira enjoys working with all ages-- children, adults, families, and communities. She teaches internationally and has facilitated workshops at San Francisco State University, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art/ SFMOMA (sfmoma.org), Esalen Institute (esalen.org), and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe (edfringe.com).

Taira is a graduate of Tamalpa Institute (tamalpa.org), a movement- based expressive arts training center, co-founded by Anna Halprin and Daria Halprin. Now on core faculty at Tamalpa, Taira teaches somatic movement, R.S.V.P. Cycles & Collective Creativity, embodying nature, and Tamalpa Life/Art Process.

Taira is Associate Teacher for her mentor, Anna Halprin (annahalprin.org). Taira has worked extensively for the past several years with Ms. Halprin and is a performing member of The Sea Ranch Collective.

Born into a family of artists, Taira has studied dance and visual arts since childhood. Currently, she is captivated by photography. She experiences photography as an exploration in seeing and as an opportunity to be present in the moment. Taira is at home in all aspects of the creative process- - the precision, order, concentration, and techniques, as well as the chaos, impasse, discovery, satisfaction, and joy.

As an ordained minister, Taira enjoys being a loving and creative resource for couples as they plan their unique ceremony. She experiences her ministry and her life as a Life/Art/God Process. Taira lives with her family on the outskirts of the Point Reyes National Seashore, where they are active members of their community.
