"Visual art making is an ensemble. It is a moment by moment improvisation
between the eyes, breath, shoulders, arms, hands, mind, intuition, and
materials-- paint, clay, camera—as colors, shapes, and textures interact."
–Taira Restar

VISUAL ARTS

TAIRA RESTAR offers classes, workshops, and individual sessions in visual arts.

Taira enjoys teaching both children and adults. She welcomes beginners without artistic confidence, as well as, professional artists. She specializes in working with educators and expressive arts practitioners.

Sessions include visual art techniques, first-hand experience with a variety of art materials, and often printed information to take home for future reference.

Those with and without previous visual art experience find Taira’s sessions fresh, inspiring, and useful. Taira gives clear step-by-step instruction for beginners and more advanced guidance for seasoned artists. She works with topics such as overcoming blocks, inner criticism, art making as sacred play, and improvisation.

Taira often introduces physical movement into the art making process, including explorations of seeing and breathing.  Taira says, “Art making is a physical act. Tapping into the wisdom of the body, gifts the new and seasoned artist with insights, inspiration and resources.” She guides participants into a deeper fuller relationship with art making and with life itself.

Born into a family of artists, Taira is at home in all aspects of the art making process-- the precision, order, concentration, and techniques, as well as the chaos, impasse, discovery, satisfaction, and joy.
